Goyal silenced by Tata-loving PM

The recent unexpected broadside by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal at the Tata group has taken the entire political world by surprise.

The Tata group has good relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ever since Tata Motors was thrown out of West Bengal by Mamata Banerjee. Modi immediately offered land in Gujarat leading to group patriach Ratan Tata praising the ‘Good M’.

Ever since the Modi government came to power in Delhi, the Tata group has had a smooth run. But Goyal’s outburst against the Tatas, saying the group had blocked the government’s e-commerce policy, has surprised many.

The Modi government immediately asked Goyal to ‘shut up’ and the CII was asked to withdraw Goyal’s statement from its website. The public humiliation of Goyal is attributed to the Modi government’s bid to sell Air India, which is not finding any takers, to the Tata group.
