‘Confessional’ time for RBI

The Reserve Bank of India is fast coming under the scrutiny of the investigating agencies. All along, RBI officials were sitting in their ivory towers and pontificating to the rest of the country. There was no accountability and no one had any idea how the RBI functioned even at a time when billion-dollar scams of Yes Bank, ICICI Bank and PMC Bank came out in the open.

The central bank now has some serious thinking to do as BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy has filed a suit in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI investigation into the RBI’s affairs. It will be interesting to read what was going on in the banking regulator when these scams were perpetrated.
