Air travel is back with a bang and airlines are expecting to return to the preCovid passenger load factor (PLF) as early as December this year. As of the first week of October, the total number of air passengers was 75 per cent of the preCovid level.
This is good news not only for the airlines but also for the airports and thousands of workers who were laid off during the Covid pandemic. The retail stores at the airports wore a deserted look and employees were not getting their full salaries. As vaccinations improve and passengers flock back to the airport, the outlook for the aviation sector has turned distinctly positive.
The acquisition of Air India by Tata Sons and three additional airports by Adani this month augers well for the sector as they will bring additional capital to the sector which is projected to grow in double digits in a post-Covid world.
