Curious no-show of Noel Tata

The launch of Tata Neu, an e-commerce app, by the Tata group turned out to be a show of strength with all the top CEOs of the group joining the function to stand beside Tata group chairman N Chandrasekharan.

But Noel Tata, the heir-apparent to Ratan Tata, was nowhere to seen though he was the man who set up the most successful retail businesses of the Tata group — Trent.

A few months ago, an international news agency ran a story that Tata Sons will be getting a CEO while Chandra will remain the chairman with truncated powers. It’s not known yet whether Noel Tata, who will join various Tata group companies as vice chairman apart from being a Tata Trusts trustee, will ever become Tata Trusts chairman, considering that Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh, two Ratan Tata loyalists, have been already made vice chairmen of the trusts.

It would be interesting to see how things pan out in future as succession at trusts is not clear.
