Gujarat Dyestuffs Manufacturers Association - Creating a biz-friendly ecosystem

The turn of the year is a time for reflection as well as looking forward. As I look back at the year gone by, I am happy to share there are many positives that we would be carrying forward. We overcame the slowdown of Covid-19 by focusing on our strengths and creating opportunities. We designed and developed newer ways to operate and function. Working hand in hand, both the government and industries supported each other to overcome the crisis. I’m happy to say that overall it was a year of consolidation which has seen an enhancement of GDMA’s activities in all verticals — economic as well social.

Gujarat, the westernmost state of India, has always been pivotal in the economic, social and cultural development of India. The state, with its business mindset and investor-friendly policies, has always provided a conducive environment for industries and businesses to flourish. Gujarat is the pioneer of organising the investor summit ‘Vibrant Gujarat’, a model that rest of the nation is following now. With business in its mind and compassion in its heart, Gujarat has always given as much importance to health as to economic development. We appreciate the decision of the government of Gujarat to defer the ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ global investors summit at a time when the third wave of Covid-19 is looming large.

With the newer challenges of Covid-19 came a newer spirit to take these challenges head-on. The government and industry came together for a common vision of enhancing growth for various stakeholders of industry and society to foster a smart and sustainable industry and a healthy society. I have had the immense pleasure of being part of GDMA’s efforts in engaging with stakeholders in creating a conducive ecosystem for businesses to grow in Gujarat. GDMA has continued to strengthen its engagement with all stakeholders to promote a sustainable model of economic development for the State.

CREATING NETWORKS

Membership has been at the core of all our efforts and initiatives in the state. GDMA has worked conscientiously to create business opportunities and create linkages through several platforms, offering the opportunity to network and engage with different stakeholders through various programmes which have been highly appreciated by all the stakeholders. The year also focused on fostering MSMEs through various learning sessions and engagement with the MSME DIC.

Active support and cooperation extended by GDMA’s office-bearers, executive committee and members was the driving force behind all initiatives. As a team, we shall continue our endeavour of bringing economic prosperity to the state and country.

With mutual cooperation and support, I look forward to seeing a more affirmative business environment for the industrial growth ahead with the optimistic target of government of achieving a $ 5 trillion economy by 2024. Let us come together and mark the 75th year of Independence by achieving newer heights by making a positive difference to industries, society and other stakeholders.

- Ramesh Patel is President, GDMA
