Seminar to promote responsible packaging

Foundation for Innovative Packaging and Sustainability (FIPS) has organised ‘RESPACK-2022’, an international conference on ‘Responsible Packaging’ (Optimal Design, Innovative Materials, Sustainable Technology) for the first time in India at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi, on September 9 and 10.

According to Prof Dr NC Saha, founder- chairman of FIPS, the theme of the conference was conceptualised after realising the fact that non-collection of post-consumer plastic packaging waste causes environmental pollution and is mainly due to the lack of responsibility by all stakeholders, including consumers. Hence, there is a need to analyse and understand in-depth about responsible package design, responsible materials and responsible recycling technology which would play a significant role in terms of collection, segregation and recycling of post-consumer packaging waste to mitigate environmental pollution. In fact, optimal design of any plastics packaging material plays a significant role while making the structural design of plastics packaging material.

Paper and paper board are an important packaging media which are recyclable and biodegradable, but there is a need to have innovative coating technology to enhance a barrier property against moisture and gas. Similarly, metal containers are required to have less thickness of tin coating to comply with sustainability. A lot of development has also occurred in the field of printing inks, pre-press technology and printing technology. All these aspects need to be disseminated among stakeholders.

The main objective of the international conference is to bring all stakeholders, like package designers, scientists of material science for innovative packaging materials, packaging converters for responsible conversion process to minimize carbon emission, plastics packaging recycling machinery suppliers and brand owners onto a single platform and disseminate the latest knowledge for their benefit.

SEVERAL SESSIONS

There will be two keynote speakers to highlight responsible packaging and its role for a greener environment. In the innovative material sessions, there will be three plenary sessions on paper packaging and coating technology, metal packaging and innovative coating for food packaging, and flexible packaging to highlight the technology of bio-degradable plastics. Besides, there will a plenary session on ‘Design for Responsible Packaging’ to highlight the importance of design in coated paper and plastic films.

In addition, there will be two sustainable Technology Sessions to highlight state-of-the- art recycling machinery for postconsumer plastic packaging waste. Three parallel sessions on Package Design, Plastics Waste Management & Recycling, and Brand Owners’ Perspectives will also be covered by experts in these fields. In short, there will be 40 speakers from leading Indian companies and overseas speakers from Germany, Austria, China and Japan. It is expected that about 250 delegates, including packaging raw material manufacturers, packaging converters, machinery suppliers, packaging users, scientists, faculty, students and start-ups will participate in the conference.

FIPS invites all stakeholders who are directly or indirectly connected to the packaging business to attend the conference. Registration can be done by clicking the link.
