Tatas mull Lanka airline purchase

The Sri Lankan media has reported that their government has approached the Tata group to sell 49 per cent stake in Sri Lankan Airlines. The government plans to retain the rest.

Tata group insiders say their plate is full with Air India’s acquisition and solving legacy problems, including a pilots’ revolt over the new salary structure. They don’t want to buy another loss-making airline with no future. The Tatas may look at Sri Lankan Airlines if that government sells its entire 100 per cent stake and not 49 per cent.
