Best-run CETP in Maharashtra

The Common Effluent Treatment Plant (Thane Belapur), Navi Mumbai, is one of the biggest, best- performing and professionally run CETPs in Maharashtra, having a total capacity of 27 mld.

CETP Thane Belapur Association is registered under section 8 of the Company’s Act 2013. Representatives of user-members form the Board of Directors and give honorary services. The systematic and efficient working of this plant is appreciated by MIDC, MPCB and Ministry of Environment & Forests. Efforts are made to ensure strict compliance of directions/guidelines issued by government bodies and to serve as a link between industrial growth and a cleaner environment in the TTC Industrial Area.

The combined effluents received from SSI, MSI and LSI units at the inlet of CETP are fully treated and discharged through the disposal line, meeting the prescribed discharge norms laid down by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

MODERN PLANT

CETP Thane Belapur Association has been taking many initiatives in improving its performance and the quality of effluents being discharged in to the creek every day. The association has installed and is operating a 100 CuM/day RO plant for recycling and reuse of treated effluents. Among other things, automation of the existing plant in a phased manner, setting up a new laboratory and a training centre for academicians, school and college students, industrial staff and environmentalists have been done. The association has proposed an additional 5 mld plant and use of renewable energy for drying of sludge.

SOCIAL WORK

CETP Thane Belapur Association, since its inception, has been actively involved in social activities such as helping various academic institutes /colleges for projects, in-plant training to students, improving awareness of the environment among students, professionals and the general public, and extending help/support to other CETPs in resolving their operational problems.

CETP Thane Belapur Association conducts programmes to impart education to school/college students. Every year, a large number of students from various academic institutes from all over the country visit this CETP and many of them complete their in-plant training here.

GOING GREEN

CETP Thane Belapur Association has put up a solar and wind (hybrid) energy system (renewable energy) in its premises at P-60 to initially cater to the requirements of its administrative functions. It has also taken up projects for water-efficient landscaping, energy-efficient lighting, etc.

As part of the beautification and to make the TTC industrial area green, clean and pollution-free, every year CETP Thane Belapur Association, in co-ordination with Thane Belapur Industrial Association, MPCB and MIDC conducts a tree plantation drive and ecoGanesha promotional activities within the CETP premises and in the industrial area very aggressively. The association has also started awareness programmes like ‘Phasing Out Single-Use Plastics’. CETP directors, staff, workers, officials from monitoring authorities, industry representatives, school and college students collectively plant trees in order to increase awareness among the public at large.
