GreenPebble Technologies

Green buster of wastewater

Jigar Jani, co-founder and business head of Green Pebble Technologies, is a dynamic and far-sighted technologist, and a renowned expert in water and wastewater treatment solutions.

A brilliant student in his academic career, Mr Jani, after graduating in engineering from Sardar Patel University in Gujarat, did his Masters in Science from Technical University, Dortmund, Germany and completed his Ph. D from University of Twente, the Netherlands. After valuable work experience at Permeara Solutions, Akzo Nobel, Sabic Innovative Plastics and University of Twente, Mr Jani came back to Gujarat and founded Green Pebble Technologies LLP jointly with Ms Falguni Dave.

Mr Jani has developed remarkable skills in process optimization, process engineering and characterization. He has praiseworthy expertise in the manufacture of water treatment plants, industrial water treatment plants, water filtration systems, water purification plants, forward osmosis water treatment plants, microfiltration water treatment, reverse osmosis water treatment, sewage water treatment and industrial water treatment

GreenPebble Technologies (GPT) provides sustainable membrane-based water and wastewater treatment solutions for industrial and municipal applications. GPT manufactures advanced membrane products such as microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, forward osmosis, membrane distillation, electrodialysis and pervaporation. The company’s integrated membrane products offer excellent treated water quality and improved energy efficiency with easy deployability.

HOW IT BEGAN

The company was founded by the driven and dynamic leadership of Dr Jigar M Jani and Ms Falguni Dave in 2015. Dr Jani believes there will be significant developments in the filtration industry in the coming years due to the increase in the focus on sustainability, resource recovery and energy efficiency. He adds that the design and development of new materials with new functionalities will be critical to meet the evolving needs of client needs and environmental compliances. Dr Jani, who is also the Technology Head of GPT, says, “Our innovations in the membrane

can recycle water from industrial and municipal wastewater and remove major pollutants with great efficiency/” The company’s innovations enable the wastewater treatment industry to reap strong sustainability benefits by offering 40% less energy use and 50% less operational footprint. The in-built smart functionalities of the membrane make it less prone to clogging, fouling or decay -- resulting in less chemical use and low cost of ownership.

So far, GPT has seen sustained growth using the continued trust of its clients and its solutions. “This continued faith of our clients for our solutions and innovation has helped us accelerate our technological adaptations for a wide range of industries. However, expanding our production capacity and further growth of our business require raising of additional capital through raising of funds through various avenues,” he says.

NEW MEMBRANES

Dr Jani and his team are working passionately on rolling out their new membrane products for various applications across industrial sectors to ensure that they are driving further growth. GPT has made a significant investment in developing a new manufacturing facility in Sanand-II near Ahmedabad where it manufactures advanced membranes. According to Dr Jani, the adoption of niche membrane production is helping the company deliver value and increase its revenue/ profit share. “Our focus is to further invest in developing ion exchange membranes for green hydrogen production and streamline our capabilities to have better synergies between the water and energy sectors. We aim to design membranes that deliver high performance, durability, and cost-efficiency.”

He continues, “Our future development plans include consolidating the production process so that our membrane technology could bring a disruption to produce green hydrogen in terms of scalability and affordability. This strategy also aligns with GPT’s long-term expertise and leveraging its membrane manufacturing capabilities.

GPT has continued to maintain a steady growth trajectory in FY2024 with new orders in the pipeline, product development, pilot plant trials and testing of new products. Business growth of 28% has been observed in the current fiscal year.”

GROWTH GRAPH

Ms Falguni states, “We expect a steady and healthy growth in the coming years, mainly driven by production enhancement, new sales orders and renewal of service contracts.” The company has continued to grow faster owing to new application development and renewed momentum after the sluggish Covid period. Though there are input cost pressures in unit membrane production, there are opportunities for growth in the industrial sector due to sustained demand, which is resulting in a stronger pipeline.
