Tata Steel UK has received a £ 500 million dole from the UK government to convert its coal-based blast furnaces to electric arcs. This is expected to maintain 5,000 jobs in the UK.
The Tata group was in talks with the UK government for the last three years, seeking UK taxpayers’ bailout money.
Tata Steel has agreed to look at future investment opportunities, which are thought to include the potential for wind turbines to be made in south Wales at a new plate mill.
