Oil prices experienced a slight uptick on Tuesday amid an escalating crisis in the Middle East. Ship tracking data revealed an increasing number of tankers altering course away from the Red Sea in response to attacks by Yemen's Houthi movement.
Brent crude futures rose 0.2% to $78.27 a barrel, following a 14-cent dip on Monday. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 0.2% at $72.52 per barrel after a U.S. public holiday.
Yemen's Houthi movement announced intentions to expand targets in the Red Sea, including U.S. ships, escalating tensions. More oil tankers avoided the southern Red Sea on Monday due to disruptions, impacting shipping costs and delaying oil transportation.
Following U.S. and British strikes, the U.S.-led Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) based in Bahrain cautioned ships to avoid the Bab al-Mandab Strait for several days. This naval warning contributed to heightened shipping concerns in the region.
Last week, tensions extended to the other side of the peninsula as Iran seized a tanker south of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping corridor. These incidents contribute to the complex geopolitical landscape impacting oil markets.

situation continues to pose uncertainties for oil markets.
