GIFT Nifty Achieves Record-Breaking Trading Activity

In a remarkable milestone, the GIFT Nifty index recently shattered records with an extraordinary single day of trading. This article explores this historic achievement, the significance of GIFT Nifty, and the growth of NSE IX, the international exchange where it's traded.

A Phenomenal Day of Trading:

On a remarkable Tuesday, the GIFT Nifty index witnessed an unprecedented surge in activity, recording an all-time high of 38.63 lakh contracts traded. Even more astonishing was the staggering turnover of USD 15.25 billion, which translates to about Rs 1.27 lakh crore. This momentous occasion marks a substantial leap from the previous record set on August 29, when the turnover reached USD 12.98 billion.

Exploring GIFT Nifty:

GIFT Nifty is a dollar-denominated futures contract closely tied to the Nifty 50 index. It finds its trading home on NSE IX, an international multi-assets exchange strategically located within GIFT City.

Rapid Growth Since Inception:

The trajectory of trading turnover on NSE IX has been nothing short of spectacular since the commencement of full-scale operations for Gift Nifty on July 3, 2023. In a relatively short period, Gift Nifty has witnessed an astonishing cumulative volume of over 4.59 million contracts. This has translated into a total turnover of an astounding USD 178.54 billion.

NSE IX: A Diverse Portfolio:

NSE IX is not just about Gift Nifty; it offers a diverse portfolio of financial products to cater to a wide range of investors. This includes Indian single stock derivatives, index derivatives, currency derivatives, depository receipts, commodity derivatives, and access to global stocks.

In a financial landscape marked by volatility and dynamism, the remarkable performance of GIFT Nifty and NSE IX stands as a testament to their robustness and resilience. These achievements not only reflect the growing appetite for financial instruments but also underscore the importance of GIFT City as a global financial hub. As trading activity continues to soar, the future looks promising for both seasoned and aspiring investors participating in this thriving ecosystem.
