Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently recognized the significant contributions of the Dawoodi Bohra community towards India's development and nation-building. During the inauguration of the Mumbai campus of the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah, a prestigious seat of learning for the community, Modi lauded the community for its widespread involvement in education, trade, business, environmental protection, and other social and academic activities.
Modi urged the Dawoodi Bohras to become "brand ambassadors" of India wherever they have settled and acknowledged the community's role in India's progress. He also praised the vision and dedication of the founder of the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah, Syedna Abde'ali Saifuddin, who established the institution of excellence in 1810 during the British Raj.
Modi shared his warm relationships with the previous spiritual head of the community, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, and his son, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. He recounted emphasis on the love and concern that the community has for their country, mentioning instances where Dawoodi Bohras have come to meet him at odd hours.
The Prime Minister also spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's visit to the Syedna's sea-front bungalow ‘Saifee Villa' in Dandi, where he spent the night before breaking the Salt Act on April 6, 1930. He appreciated the community's donation of the Saifee Villa to the government, which has since been transformed into a memorial museum.
Modi spoke about India's progress in the academic sector in the past eight years and the government's efforts to make education more accessible to all. He acknowledged the shortcomings of the English-only education system during the British Raj and after independence and spoke about the government's initiative to make education in local languages more accessible.
The Prime Minister's recognition of the Dawoodi Bohra community's contributions to India's progress and his appreciation for their involvement in education, business, and environmental protection are significant. The inauguration of the Mumbai campus of the Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah and Modi's message to the community highlight the importance of education and the role it plays in nation-building.
