Reviving a Strong Bond: India and Egypt Set to Strengthen Trade and Defence Relations During Sisi's Historic Visit

First Egyptian Leader to be Chief Guest

As Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi becomes the first Egyptian leader to be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations, the two nations are set to enhance their strategic partnership through a series of agreements. This "ground-breaking" visit has the potential to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a much higher level.

Security and Defence: Strengthening Ties

India and Egypt are likely to strengthen their cooperation in security and defence through the signing of agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU). A military contingent from Egypt will also participate in the Republic Day parade, signalling the growing ties between the two nations.

Trade and Investment: Expanding Opportunities

The two countries are also set to discuss ways to increase cooperation in trade and investment, with agreements in areas such as energy and agriculture. The visit is also expected to lay the groundwork for cooperation in Information Communications Technology (ICT) and pharmaceuticals.

Countering Terrorism: A Joint Effort

In addition to the aforementioned areas, India and Egypt are also expected to discuss ways to increase cooperation in countering terrorism.

Bond to get stronger

As President Sisi meets with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 25th and shares the dais with Indian President Droupadi Murmu on January 26th, it is clear that the relationship between India and Egypt has the potential to be elevated to a much higher level. With both leaders coming to power in 2014 with a vision to modernize and develop their respective countries, the security of the Indian Ocean region has been given a lot of importance by the Indian leadership as it is closely linked to the country's growth and development. This visit could be a step towards reviving the strong bond the two countries once enjoyed in the 1950s and 1960s.
